Treasurer's Report Year Ending 31st July 2009

Sunday, 6 September 2009

Income – This increased from 2007/8 by £1809 to £5873 (a 44% increase). However this year end income figure includes a pre-payment of £580. This is for the Skid Pan Day’s due to be held in Oct & Nov 2009. Taking this into account the actual increase for the 12 month period was £1227 (30%).

The increase in Income was due to an increased number of new Associates resulting from our successful recruitment activities, and also two generous Donations, one of £500 and one of £150. The £500 donation came as a result of the Group carrying out a Drive Check evening with Tarporley Round Table.

A number of successful Skid Pan day’s were held throughout the year and not only do these generate a small surplus for the Groups funds, but they are also a very good recruitment opportunity. As a result a number of Associates have been introduced this way.

Expenditure – Throughout the year this was well controlled and as result there was a reduction on the 2007/8 expenditure total of £407 (8%). This was mainly due to reduced Printing and Stationary costs because of the CANAM Newsletter going from monthly publishing to every other month. There has also been an increase in the number of “e-newsletters” sent to members.

During the Financial Year the CANAM website was further developed and we also purchased advertising “pull ups banners” which enabled the Group to display a professional image at the number of local events which were attended throughout the year, where we promoted the IAM and recruited Associates.

The decision was taken by the Committee to utilise the Donations received in a pro-active manner, initially concentrating on younger drivers (17 to 25). Therefore a number of SFL packages were purchased and these will be made available as the prizes in a young drivers’ competition to be run in October 2009. This is being run in conjunction with a local paper and this should enable CANAM to build positive links with the media

Deposit Account – Continues to have a very healthy balance of £2446. The current rates of Interest paid are very low and the total interest for the year was a paltry £25.
Alternative accounts were reviewed during the year but those potentially available were very limited and the interest rates low. However this situation will stay under continued review.

Summary – 2008/9 was a very strong financial performance from the Group. We have robust financial procedures in place and all large expenditure is correctly debated by the Committee, before being sanctioned. The last 12 months financial performance has enabled the Group to move to a pro-active position where we can promote the IAM and safer driving i.e. Website, SFL competition etc. This will continue throughout the next 12 months.
